Robert R. Malinoski Slides

Does anyone know who has possession of his slides? Unfortunately, I never had the pleasure of meeting Bob but have a Wabash book out this fall and would like to use one or two of his slides in the book.

This is my first book but my byline had appeared in a number of historical society publications and Trains magazine.

Thanks in Advance

You might want to check with the Carsten’s people and the O&WRR Historical Society for starters.

Thanks, but is it possible you are thinking of the author Robert E. Mohowski who is still with us?

No, I know Mohowski…and I know who Malinoski was.

I got some info indirectly through Mahowski from one of the editors for one of the other magazines that Malinoski’s slides have been and are being sold on eBay by a 3rd party, so in essence, scattered to the winds. My only gripe I have with that is most likely the slides have lost their identification as to who, when and what and may no longer be easily assessable to researchers and writers and most importantly shared with the public. Most collectors are good chaps and willing to share material for publication, but finding them and the right images is another thing.

I was looking for one slide in particular for the book of a Wabash freight powered by two Wabash F7s at State Line tower. The photo appeared in Classic Trains a few years ago. For some reason I have not been able to find many photos of Wabash trains at State Line Tower though that is where Wabash 4th District trains got on and off the Chicago & Western Indiana. (They connected with the B&OCT there.)

If anyone can help, I’d appreciate it and with a good photo, will be able to get you a free autographed copy of the book. Unless Kalmbach got rights to that particular slide upon publication, the new owner of the original slide has the rights. Of course, I would be interested in something else with the Wabash at State Line if possible. Regardless, the book will be out this fall and there is plenty of material and history.
