I saw a couple of posts about the work done at the diamonds this past week, but no one seemed to know for sure what happened. Is there anyone from the Rochelle area that has any good info.
News to me that work was done on them.
Don’t quote me but I imagine that they were replacing rails/joiner bolts. Constant pounding of steel wheels can wear those out.
Tuesday, October 27th, around lunchtime I drove past the Rochelle Railroad Park and the BNSF/UP diamonds were quite crowded with cranes and other, on-track machinery. West of there I saw three eastbound double-stacks parked along what appeared to be The Overland Route mainline waiting for an opportunity for the track maintenance work to clear up. I should think both the Geneva Subdivision and the Aurora - Twin Cities raceway would have had curfews in affect to allow this important trackwork to be completed as quickly as possible.
