Hello all,
Just looked at the Rochelle web cam at about 9:30 EST and it looks like there was a derailment or collision. I tuned into WGN but there was nothing on about it. Anybody heard anything. THanks Dennis
The cam now says “Emergency Situation in Rochelle.” Looks like some crumpled containers on the BNSF line.
Supposedly a railgrinder on the UP has collided with a stack train on the BNSF with a POSSIBLE ensuing wreck. By looking at the webcam there appears to be a lot of bright lights and containers ripped open with thier contents spilled all over.

I hope everyone is ok…this looks pretty serious!
Any photo’s?
All I have to say is,Someone is in BIG DOO DOO!

I live just west of this collision. The nightly news said that the two trains collided on the diamond. It looks from the webcam that there are boxes everywhere. I might have seen that BNSF train earlier today when I was in Savanna, IL watching the trains there. Sometimes I’m at that intersection in Rochelle watching trains.
I do believe the fingers are starting to point at UP. From what I heard the MoW may have ran a stop signal or that he just didn’t have the proper forms to occupy the diamonds. Whatever the case may be, I bet traffic on the ex CNW is at a standstill. Even I think there may be a ripple effect from the wreck felt on other Class One’s in and out of ChiTown(ex. NS, CSX, CN and so on) in the next several hours or up to 24 hours.
it looks to me from the webcam shots that there might be a fire. those “arches” in the middle of the screen look like water from fire hoses and they keep moving around as if thats what it is
Now the cam seems to be taken out of service…[banghead]
No the water on the camera is due to rain in Rochelle tonight.
Looks like the camera is up and going again. Thanks for the info guys. We usually take a trip to that little park a couple times a year. My dad worked for Conrail until it was taken over by NS and CSX. Had a couple cousins who worked for The Grand Trunk also. Dennis
[:0]what a surprise and it’s all on camera[:(]
I was watchin television, and I kept getting messages in my email box from some of the wisconsin railroad forums and they were all (9 to be exact) titled Rochelle Web Cam. I kept thinkin to myself its nighttime I never see anything at night unless its the headlight from a train. Then I go to the site and see whats happening and am just shocked. Im more interested in seeing what everything looks like in the morning, especially if there is any damage to the diamonds. Thats going to snarl alot of traiffic.
Hopefully no one was hurt.

What a mess! I can not find any news articles about this wreck on any internet site. I was just at the diamonds for my first visit ever on Valentines Day Feb 14th. Don’t get up there much from Ft Worth Texas.
Hello all
I work for the UP and as I understand the rail grinder hit the BNSF train caused a lot of delay for the crews trying to get home from IOWA I understand no one got hurt which is a blessing in it’s self. Hopefully things will clear up and we’ll be back to normal. ALL READERS CONCERNED THE RAILROAD WILL HANDLE THIS SITUATION IN A TIMELY MANNER THANKS FOR YOUR CONCERN. THANK YOU, RAILROADING 4 A LIVING

i have been looking at the web cam and trains have been going thru.
What an impressive recovery from the collison. I checked at 5:00 and all the “wreckage” was gone and most of the people too and at 6:00AM if I did not know better I would have thought there was only MOW project going on. From what I heard they amassed a large cleanup crew and got things done ASAP. Good job guys!

Thy don’t mess around don’t they?
