Here’s video I shot today giving example to how I monitor one of my favorite railfan hotspots from over 1500 miles away. I’m sharing this to spread the word of how much ATCS Monitor can enhance your railfanning experience. Sorry in advance for the lousy narration.
This is the exact same thing i do, especially today when its snowing. I watch the webcam, listen to the scanner on RR.net and watch the dispatcher board. I didnt think it was real time when i first started it, but with the first BNSF train, i was proven wrong. When the track goes red (block occupied) over the crossing, 10 seconds later, the train arrived eastbound. It is cool but, for me, im still having problems getting other ones running. I will settle for Rochelle.
Yeah Jim, September or October will be the next time I get to travel up north. I was in North Chicago, IL at my uncle’s house for Thanksgiving last year, but I couldn’t leave the family to drive to Rochelle so I railfanned around Great Lakes Naval Training Center and a little of Waukegan. Didn’t see many trains but did get a bit of frostbite on my fingertips.
When I do make it to your neck of the woods, perhaps you can show me around.
Yeah WOW is right. Frankly I’m suprised more railfans here aren’t taking much interest in this. Guess they either really don’t know what they’re missing or they’re really not railfans afterall.
I’d love to use the ATCS Monitor. But I run a PowerMac (iMac G4) with OS X. I couldn’t find ATCS for OS X. Only for Windows. Since I refuse to get Windows, doesn’t that mean I can never get ATCS?
