Rochelle Webcam UP Solo Engine

I just looked at today’s past Rochelle pictures and came across this unusual one solo UP ES44 going Eastbound on the UP Main. Can anybody tell me what’s this all about in this area because it seems unusual, but, it’s coming from Global lll Intermodal Yard or going back, so maybe not. But somebody tell me anyways?

I’m not familiar with Rochelle, but I’d guess maybe a setout and going back light (or vice versa).

I was in Utica this past weekend when two locos went past westbound, all by themselves…

Eastbound at the diamond, it would be departing Global 3 for points east (assuming that that was its origin, probably a better than 50% chance).

Where was it going? Probably Proviso.

Why was it without cars or other locomotives? Anybody’s guess.

A “Light” engine going someplace by itself could be for any reason. I’ve seen it happen. A group of them would be more common, but in this case maybe this one was needed for something, or as has been said was doing a drop someplace. One of the many interesting wonders of railroading.
