Rochester to get $15 million for new multimodal station
ABOUT TIME…THEY NEED A NEW STATION FOR A BIG CITY AND BIG COUNTY…IN UP=STATE NEW YORK…GOOD FOR YOU GUYS AND GIRLS…BEST TO YOU…DAVE
The place better be a palace for that kind of money. That is, if there is anything left after the consultants get their share!
Congressperson Louise Slaughter finally got her way!
4 trains a day, $37,700,000. OK. Makes sense.
a new station is nice, but $15 million just for ‘design work’?
It should have been done in the 1950’s when I was a telegrapher for the old NYCRR.
At least eight trains a day, not four. Plus, as the article clearly states, it isn’t just for the trains. Compared to the public welfare/subsidy that airlines and automobiles receive, this actually seems pretty modest and is really overdue. Te current Amtrak station in Rochester is a horrid place, sterile 1970s cheap architecture at its worst.
The best design won (and is sensibly realistic in terms of design vs. train frequency); a nice tip of the hat to Claude Bragdon’s former “driving wheel” facade. But I must agree, there’s something wrong with the proportion of “design study” money to actual construction funding. Somebody made a buck or two here…
