ok everyone third try. I still am lacking foliage but i finally have the color i want! here are some pics. unfortunatly the pictures do not show the black wash and some of the white highlights well but it is finally how i had it pictured in my head. So does it look better than the first two attempts? here is the first post. http://cs.trains.com/forums/1504089/ShowPost.aspx
You might want to try washing some ochres and burnt sieanna/umber here or there depending on the geographic area you are modelling.
Rock is rarely uniformly grey.
And I might add some more grass and foliage in the seams; I’m always pulling it out of my sidewalks, so it’s gotta grow in the wild, too!
Overall, looks pretty god though.
Not too shabby! I would leave well enough alone. Posted photos often lack the color resolution and quality of the original so it is hard to know exactly what is going on with highligts etc. It’s easy to try and “optimize” the work just one step too far and ruin it.
My thoughts exactly, though as mentioned it does depend on what area you are modeling but I agree rock outcroppings are seldom so uniform in color. There is almost always a bit of yellow, red or brown. Still, what you have there looks pretty darn good as it is. [tup] [2c]
Wow, your original limestone has turned into good old hard, ‘can’t blast it with a howitzer’ Sierra Granite.[:P] Nice work. Only thing I’d do is possibly work in–very lightly-- a little ‘rust’ color, and possibly some vegetation in the cracks.
But it looks GOOD!

That looks better. A little dark, but better. At least it all looks like the same kind of rock now.
