Was there any apparent logic in the locos (or stock) that received “Bankruptcy Blue” or did it just get sprayed on whatever happened to be going through the shops?
Also… would someone with knowledge tell me/us the rough dates for the main (diesel era) coloure schemes? So far I have found:- dark red, bright red and bankruptcy blue. Would all three have been around at the same time? Or the forst and last?

I think RI applied the new colors on whatever was going through the shop at the time. In the early 1980s, Trains did an article about the last days of the Rock. IIRC, quite a few photos showed units in multiple paint schemes.
Once you get to RITS check Jeff Princes site. Very cool and has some oddball painted units like the 4710 ( I think) that has a Blue nose and cab and yellow red speed lettering on the hood!
