Rock Island story in Classic Trains

I want to thank the author of the Rock Island narrative in the recent Classic Trains for writing such a wonderful, and detailed piece. It really brought the Rock Island to life for me. A great memoir. Thanks.

Agree, an excellent article!

Mr Sabin is a real nice guy who also is a member of RITS and post memories on their listserver. Also is the president of Iowa Northern adn is on its yahoo group telling old stories as well.
One of his latest questions to the inrr group was how would you run the railroad? If you get a chance check out those two groups and just ask a question about the Rock, he always answers them or finds out for sure if he doesnt know.

Anything on the Rock is worth reading. If anyone has memories of the Rock around the Wichita area, please share

I agree. The Rock Island story was great. One line really caught my attention when the author spoke about being a teenager and hardly being able to wait to get out of school so he could spend his life working on the Rock. I wonder how many other young men felt the same way, not knowing what was in store for the Rock in just a few years.
While I am from Western New York, I did ride the Rock Island Rocket several times from Chicago to Des Moines. Those rides were memories I cherish 40 years later.
