Rockaways subway service to return May 30

As a former Rockawayite and a subway conductor who worked the line over night when it was known as the Round Robin, Euclid Ave. Bklyn. to Rockaway Park, Queens. Rockaway Park to Far Rockaway and Far Rockaway back to Euclid Ave. I’m happy to read that thru service is coming back. I remember when the LIRR left the Rockaways due to a trestle fire and the railroad didn’t have the money to replace it. So, welcome back. Take the “A” train to the Rockaways!

In the news today was a report that Congress has decided to allocate more money to the US Weather service to upgrade the weather prediction system because it responded a lot slower and less acurately than the European model did that forecasted the real path of Sandy. As usual “after action reports” as we called them in the Military are only good if you actually learn your lesson and correct the deficencies. The sad part a lot of other transit systems in the US will not look at what happened and prepare for the worst until it “has” happened.

Th’is is not “federal aid.” It is tax payer money ONLY. Americans need to understand this. I am not saying it is wrong, but we need to start calling a spade a spade.

glad to see the line back in service. as a kid i rode the LIRR (1949) and the very first subway train to Far Rockawway (1956). (the first train to Rockaway was reservved for VIP’s). -arturo
