From the “Rocky Mountain Express” IMAX film trailer (page 5 of July’s Model Railroader):

A 1928 black and white film making a steam locomotive.

Can’t wait to see the IMAX film!

Thanks Terry. I really enjoyed that. I liked that big forged used to make the driving rods. They wore aprons but no face protection.[^o)]

History of CP’s construction is amazing … so many lakes, rivers, mountains. Might not have been finished (due to costs) if not for our trancontinental experience 5 years earlier.

Gidday Terry, I never fail to be impressed by the sheer size that is allowed by the generous North American Loading Gauge.

Many thanks for the post.

Cheers, the Bear.

live the big ones.its nice to see how this comes about.

Few people get to see heavy industry at work. A great short film.

Just a FYI for those of you who would like to capture videos you would rather save to your hard drives and keep in case they disappear…which often happens on youtube. Get the freeware aTube Catcher. You simply save and paste the URL of any videos you feel strongly about keeping for posterity on your drive, and let it do the rest. Just have to designate a folder for the file to be saved.

An observation…and I do have this saved on my hard drive as of about three years ago…at the 3’50" mark, roughly, notice how the shop supervisor strong-arms one of the hands out of the way of the swinging smoke box front-sheet. It was a dangerous place to work in those shops, but people watched out for each other.

Lovely locomotive. I have seen them in brass, but maybe in another life.

Crandell

Thanks Crandell.

I’ve always wanted to save YouTube clips, especially this one!
