Rod Stewart/AOL

Rod Stewart’s model railroad “fetish” made the AOL Welcome page. More advertizing for the hobby.

Have fun,

Richard

Of course the AOL moron who wrote this article has to refer to it as a “fetish”, casting the hobby as something wierd or perverse.

Here’s the article:

http://www.spinner.com/2011/01/20/rod-stewart-model-trains/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+Spinner+(Spinner.com)

You mean you never played with your trains while wearing leather underware??

Interesting…

Mark

I left an appropriate comment to the head line of this article.

More advertising on AOL? Fantastic, that’s what - access to another dozen people or so?

Oh sure, lots of times. I think though, that it’s the rubber chicken that bothers some folks…

John

Good point John, the chicken probably is a bit “over the edge” for most folks!!

Mark

It is hardly news that those who do not share our hobby take a particular slant when writing about it or writing about those who do share the hobby.

When the articles are about a different hobby than model railroading or railfanning we don’t even notice the “attitude” expressed in the article.

If Ozzy Osbourne raised koi for a hobby, those who also raise koi would surely bristle at the type of articles that would be written but we wouldn’t even be aware of the issue.

Dave Nelson

I think the author is just trying (and failing) to be clever. The first (and only original) paragraph goes:

The rest of the article is just a paraphrasing of the MRR article from a couple months ago.

I hate how our news reporting has boiled down to “someone else already reported this but I’ll tell you what they said anyway”.

If Ozzy Osbourne raised koi for a hobby, those who also raise koi would surely bristle at the type of articles that would be written but we wouldn’t even be aware of the issue.

If OZZY raised Koi, it may not have been a bat that bit the head off of LOL…Mike

AOL is still around? Now THAT must be a fetish!

Yep – we have a club member who still uses AOL as his e-mail provider. Maybe that’s why we don’t hear from him very often.

Wasn’t AOL offered for sale a few months ago and no one was interested in buying it ?

I remember the days when you could find free AOL sign-up CDs in practically every store and you would also get them in the mail periodically.

My, how times change.

Hey, they made good beer coasters!!!

Mark

What’s underware? And why would you need a rubber chicken when you can have the real thing?

Please, please lock this thread just so we don’t become like the weird model railroader that some people think we are.[8-|]

You mean you used Coco-Cola? Sounds messy…

Mark

We’re already weird, locking the thread won’t change that. What we’re discovering is how weird…

John

Yep. Use it every day here.

Have far far fewer problems that those who use other servers!

Love AOL would be lost without it!

That is correct, Lake. The OP made a good point that there is some free advertising for model railroading and it probably should be left at that (although I do like the one about the “leather underwear”!)
