Rogers Locomotive

Hello all,

I have an oppertunity to purchase an original REA Rogers 2-4-2 Locomotive. Can someone tell me whether or not this locomotive is a good runner? Are there any differences between the one made by REA and the one that Aristo-Craft is offering?

Yes they are very good if not a little too toy-like in there earliest incarnation. If thats not a problem, they are a good choice.

It’s sound is pretty bad. If you are not running realistic consists than it’s fine.

I recently won one at a train meet and repainted it. I love it!!! It is very fast and hey, for $10 in raffle tickets, that’s a steal!!!
Good luck,
David

I love this little steam engine. It will be the signature loco of layout I am planning on Planting in my yard this spring. I own five of them. The sound is a less then perfect from the sloped back tender, but it is a great little engine. I have heard of people having trouble/issues with power pick-up on track power with the front pilot on some engines, but I have not had that issue. Well I had a problem with one which Aristo-Craft took care of very promptly.

Hi dontrainman
I would think the typical two car train set passanger train would be a reasonable
realistic train for one of these small locomotives.
Not sure what the sound issuie is as I have not found a loco with sound that sounds half decent, I dont realy see it as an issuie.
Good to hear they are a reasonable locomotive have been thinking about one
of the new ones for a while.
regards John

I have an original Delton REA Rogers 2-4-2, over twenty year old, purchased on e-bay last year in as new condfition, it is a great performer, I have heard some disparaging remarks about the beborn Aristocraft Rogers, but my old REA is fantastic, it would be 1:24 scale as are the Aristocraft Classic line of freight cars, made from the old Delton REA moulds.
