On the Stampede Sub between Auburn,WA and Yakima,WA the dispatcher frequently calls for a “roll-up” when two trains meet. What does this mean or what does it entail? Is it just another term or a “meet”? Does it refer to an inspection by the conductor of one of the trains of the other train?-if so, I thought this was always supposed to be done without having to be told.
I’ve heard of a “roll-by” but never a “roll up,” at least in the RR context. Might be local vernacular.
Roll up is what we do when operating in track warrant control if their is another train following, the dispatcher will ask the lead train for a mile post all by (the conductor and engineer must jointly agree) on location so the other train can get on the move.
