My latest rehab projects are 4 stock cars. old metal wood kits. One needs a new roofwalk. it is wood and only half is here because split in half/. So instead of digging around th net looking for a wood part, Just make a new one. Northeast scale lumber order and simple build. but. what size are the boards? 2x10? And the mounting brackets size?
I also cannt ind 40’ stock car decals for NYC and nickel plate.

Shane: I dug out one my cars. The stock car roof walk measures 36" wide It is three boards wide, with noticable spaces between them, so might be 12" wide boards?
That seems overly wide to me…most of mine seem to be around 1’9", but a lot of my freight cars do have scratchbuilt running boards. The laterals at the car’s ends are wider, though.
A lot of the kit cars also have overly thick running boards too.

It would appear that wooden roof walks varied in width depending on the freight cars manufacturer, and railroad; between 18” and 24”. The timber thickness being around 1.25”.
I’ve only made wooden roof running boards for a couple of covered hopper kit bashes, and have used 0.020” styrene on which I scribed two lines to give the appearance of the three 6 inch wide boards, making an 18” wide running board.

So that puts me at about 2x8. To 2x10. So since I don’t know the model maker, I can’t figure the prototype manufacturer So. Close enough will work for this.

Bear, it’s nice to see that the link you provided still works, as do the other links to which they’re connected.
I’m a little concerned, though, that some of mine might give viewers the feeling that they’ve been drawn down a worm hole…destined to be bored by my versions of running boards.
