Getting to the point where I may be expanding the layout, and before i spend money on more lionel turnouts, was considering this may be the time to look at alternatives.
Question.
Does anyone use Ross switches with tubular track? Are there any special instalation considerations?
Tim
The Ross switches, and track, are tubular, very similar to Gargraves.
I’m guessing your referring to Lionel type tubular. If so you can use the Gargrave adapter pins to mate the Ross with Lionel and it’s clones. The Ross switches also have the more realistic ties rather than the plate base used by Lionel. Also the hight is more akin to O27 so you’d have to shim them to match O gauge.
The price of the Ross is so close that if I were running O-31 I’d consider Ross or Gargrave switches with the adapter pins, if only to get the wider variety of types they offer.
Saw a display for Ross switches at a train show once. The guy had a four wheel truck you could roll through the switches with your finger. Tried a couple different ones and it went through those switches smooth as silk. Wi***hey made them for standard gauge.
