The main thing I saw with the Athearn unit is that it is longer and lower, looking essentially like an F7 or F9 body with a rotary plow mounted on one end. The SP units (and the Walthers unit as well) were shorter and higher: http://espee.railfan.net/sp_rotaries.html
Yes, I kinda glossed over some of the details, but the Walthers unit appears to be essentially correct for the SP unit.
Not all of the SP plows got the wings. For example, per the link above, the units at Sparks, Nevada didn’t get them. I’m modeling the San Joaquin Valley, though. And since it looks like all of the Roseville units got them, I would have to deal with that as well.
Assuming I can ever come up with one or two of the Walthers units, it could make an interesting project. [swg]
