Rough Ride!

What happen to this locomotive? On the notes it said,“Deliver New”. [X-)] I think it got rough on the way to delivery.

Delivered new, in 1999. This pic is from '05. My guess is that it performed a ‘grade crossing purification ritual’, and some debris made its way over to the conductor catwalk.

“Delivered New” indicates that UP bought the locomotive from the manufacturer, not second/third/fourth hand.

I can tell you its been repaired and back in service Had the unit last week on an empty coal train from Boone to Fremont Nebraska

Lokks like it was involved in a grade crossing accident.

Are you sure? I see the front, side and back damage…[%-)] What would make damage in three sides? [alien]

Hi,

silicon212 you really got me laughing with ‘grade crossing purification ritual’[:)], love that phrase.

Frank

It could also have been side swiped by something on a passing train like a beam or piece from a lumber load since the plow is bent and there is a hole in the vent and a scrape on the fuel tank. An impact at a grade crossing would not have made multiple impacts like that would it?

Typical damage for a grade crossing collision with a semi. As the locomotive cuts through the trailer, the broken halves of the semi-truck wrap around and hit the sides of the locomotive.
