rough track joints

While assembling a simple loop of Marx 3 rail 027 track to test some old locomotives, it occured to me just how rough the areas at the rail joints are even when the sections are pushed together as tightly as I can push them. It seems like this would cause an awful lot of wear to wheels and electrical pickups over time. Do any of you take steps to smooth these areas or is this not really a problem at all?

I sometimes use a block of wood and a hammer to smooth them out some. Also, a very, very light sanding can really help.

Aside from this, though, I don’t spend a whole lot of time smoothing them out. After all, the track joints are where the clickety-clack sound comes from, and I don’t want to completely get rid of that.
