Roundhouse 2-6-0 Decoder ???

I just purchased one of the new Roundhouse “oldtimer” 2-6-0 steam locomotives and was very surprised to find that it is actually a very nice runner. I purchased the non DCC / Non Sound version. It is DCC Ready.

Does anyone know which Sound Decoder I should use to get DCC with Sound? The tender is TINY but does have room for a speaker.

Micro-Tsunami Light would be the best choice…

This should be in the electronics DCC forum.

used a 1.1 inch O.D. speaker and a Micro-Tsunami from Litchfield Station. I cut down the pc board post, moved the tender light connector and used the pc board as tie points for the Micro.

Rich,

Thanks for the pictures, that is really helpful.

I removed the wires from the top of the PC board and cut the wires a little shorter on the decoder. I then soldered the decoder wires to the bottom PC board. A lot of double and triple checking with an ohm meter. I removed the tender light from the PC board and put it on short wires to the PC board. This is the same procedure for the Roundhouse 2-8-0 DCC ready. The Roundhouse 4-4-0, 2-6-0, 2-8-0 are the same size locos and tenders. A couple photos are from my 2-8-0 conversion.

I close coupled my Moguls. http://www.minkystrains.com/close_coupling/

I have bought new parts from Roundhouse to retrofit my older MDC old time Moguls for DCC. The older MDC tender shell fits the new Roundhouse tender frames. Here is an example.
