roundhouse 40' modern boxcar

I don’t usually ask e-bay questions, but I haven’t been able to find out what I needed to know either by checking the forum search here, googling or checking the Walther’s catalog/website.

There’s an 8-pack Roundhouse 40’ modern boxcar set for sale e-bay in my logo(Frisco). I realize Athearn now owns Roundhouse, but the above sites plus Athearn’s plus the Roundhouse website have yielded nothing on my search, unless I’m missing something.

Questions: detail quality, rolling quality, etc. The seller is asking $32.00–don’t know whether this is a good price, either as, per above, I can’t find any info., re: original MSRP, etc.

I’ve got a couple of old Roundhouse kits that I picked up on a closeout. They are older style, exterior braced 40 foot wood boxcars. The detail level is probably a bit better than Athearn BB, but not much. These cars came with plastic wheels and horn-hooks only in the box.

So, they guy wants 32 bucks for a set of 8 cars? I’d say that’s a bargain. Add metal wheels and Kadees, which should just drop in, and you’ll have a reasonable set of bargain cars.

Go for it.

The Roundhouse 40’ Modern boxcar has an acceptable level of detail, certainly the equal of your typical Blue Box. Just add a set of metal wheels, Intermountain, Proto 2000 or Kadee are all good and a set of Knuckle couplers, McHenry or Kadee are both good in my experience, and you’re good.
