Roundhouse Drovers Caboose Paint Scheme

Hello, I have been looking for a picture of a Santa Fe Drovers Caboose on the Internet, but have found very little photos execpt for the “Blind End Caboose”. The only photo I found of an SF Drover’s Caboose is a Roundhouse version decorated in what appears to be some kind of excursion scheme.

Is this correct for Santa Fe ? Or did Roundhouse simply do a fictional scheme for a protypical model ?

The Roundhouse product number is #RND84321 and the caboose is #905 lettered “Cimarron”.

Any info would be helpful thanks

I presume you’ve seen these…

Hi,

The one I saw in the late '70s was your typical boxcar brown/red - the same color as all the pre 1960 ATSF caboosessss were painted.

I think the “Cimarron” caboose is meant to be a 19th c. paint scheme, or at least someone’s idea of a 19th c. paint scheme. I would imagine a 20th c. ATSF drover’s caboose would be painted and lettered pretty much like a standard ATSF wood caboose of the same period.

Thanks for your input,

So the caboose roundhouse made is wearing colors that are simply a figment of someone’s imagination? Looks good though, I’ll Probably use it as a tailcar on an excursion train behind my Roundhouse SF 2-6-0 #599. [:)]

IMAO, Roundhouse cabooses tend to stand out somewhat from the rest of the other manufacturers because they have “roof mounted jewel lights” on top of the cupola. (red as a taillight) (green as a position light).
