So i did get my climax converted to dcc however just a few hours after running the drive gear started slipping on the motor shaft. Anybody know were i could get a new kit or find gears?
So I would join the Yahoo mdc roundhouse group and ask. There is one person there who has some parts. I saw a message about him a year or two ago.
Athearn who now sells a few Roundhouse locos does not have those parts.

The MDC Shays and Climax locomotives are notorious for gears binding up! Check to make sure the gears move easily. Check for sprue on the gears. If the gears don’t turn freely then something has to give. If the gears do run without any friction then a drop of super glue/CA on the gear should do the trick. When you get it up and running a drop of Nano oil or equivalent will smooth things out. Once you get the bugs out they run great.

My Climax is regeared with Tsunami.
You can also put a Bachmann single motror 44 tonner inside the shell. Geared Steam in these forums has done it.
I have the book about the Climax and the trucks need a lot of fine tuning to get them to run better. Also, #30 wire to connect the trucks to the motor or decoder.
Have to find the book.

i so far never noticed any locking up, when i got mine the only flaws i had were damaged press fits. i was able to use this two part stuff and i was able to fix one of the gears but the one that got loose yesterday is directly on the motor. would it hold? what is the best glue or epoxy that can stick plastic to metal?
For the old roundhouse shay, Northwest Shortline makes gear kits.
