Roundhouse/MDC kits

Do any of you know where a good place to get roundhosue kits would be , any palce that stocsk a lot of them???

eBay–you can buy eaches or cases.

I have seen them at train shows. Saw some at the LHS this past weekend in Manassas Va., but not a lot.

Ebay has loads of them.
Many hobby shops still have them in stock (you’ll likely have to call around).
A few internet hobby dealers still have them in stock, usually for the best prices (they’re trying to clear them out).

Both of my LHS–Bruce’s Trains in Sacramento and Railroad Hobbies in Roseville have a pretty good selection of the kits, though the RTR’s are making a lot of headway on the shelves. Speaking of Roundhouse RTR’s–their new caboose is a little gem, if you like the older 3-window wood style. I picked up a Rio Grande and it’s just as good as the Walthers. In fact, it tracks a WHOLE lot better. Cute lil’ thing, too!

Horizon?

Horizon didn’t have any last time I checked their website since they’re trying to phase out the kit form so they can charge 2x more for RTR. I haven’t gottn any of the new MDC RTR stuff but hopefully they’re adding weight to them, my kits were always WAY to light.

I guess my answer seem a bit curt, but my LHS seems to be getting a fairly steady stream of Roundhouse and Athearn kits from Horizon. I was ASSuming others were as well.

there is at least one ebay vendor selling 25 , 50 and 100 car lots of roundhouse kits . search on ebay for roundhouse lot

horizon may still be selling them to local hobby shops, but none are for sale on their site is what I meant.

MDC kits are a thing of the past, so if your local hobby shop has them, they are ones that were made before Horizon bought them out and moved everything to California and merged it with Athearn.

New MDC products that are hitting store shelves are RTR.

Horizon and Athearn originally announced that MDC products would be RTR and the kits would be sold under the Athearn name. I have seen a lot of the new MDC RTR stuff, but no new kits under Athearn’s name.
