Does anyone know where I can find plans for a 6-8 stall roundhouse? Im math challenged and need help in figuring out what degrees to lay the stall tracks which determines how wide the structure etc. There has to have been plans in MR sometime in the past. Thanks in advance.
The Atlas turntable/roundhouse tracks are set at 15 degrees to eachother. Can’t say if this is a standard however.
Hello “badboy9,”
I’d suggest that you see the following two articles from MODEL RAILROADER. Both of them cover laying out a roundhouse to fit your space:
Care and feeding of the steam locomotive
Model Railroader, July 1995 page 68
A tour of a model engine terminal
( “HOUGHTON, ALAN”, ROUNDHOUSE, SERVICE, STEAM, TERMINAL, TURNTABLE,
YARD, ENGINE, LOCOMOTIVE, MR )
Design and build a brick roundhouse
Model Railroader, August 1996 page 74
( BRICK, “DARNABY, BILL”, ROUNDHOUSE, SCRATCHBUILD, TURNTABLE,
CONSTRUCTION, MR )
Good luck,
Andy
If you read the kalmbach book HO lineside industries you can build there is a reprint of an old article (by Jim Findley i think) on building a stone roundhouse. It has quite detailed information on how to draw up plans of your own, how to space the stalls and get the proportions right etc.
It should be easy for those unfortunates who are mathematically challenged!
