Route 27 And St Georges Ave Overpass

The area on the Northeast Corridor from the route 35 (St Georges Ave) in Rahway to Linden train station was and is still known as the Six Roads. I did research and found out that up to 1912 the St Georges Ave overpass was a 4 or six track grade crossing with gatemen. The grade crosssing was probably famous at the time but sadly is now forgotten. The term Six Roads is still used today by some people to point out the area.

Can’t tell where you live…but check your local library and local historical societies. Also books on the PRR and the NY&LB and NJ railroads histories. Check local NHRHS, L&HS, and other railroad historical groups. There are many books, maps, and pictures of the area…old post cards are good source, too…the more local you are the more likely you will find things. But if not in the North Jersey area, your library will either have books or access to books about the area and the railroads.

Thanks for the info.

I think every grade crossing north of Perth Amboy Junction was elevated in 1913, and on the map, St. Georges Ave. crosses one of the gray lines south (southwest) of where the 2 gray lines intersect, which I think was where Perth Amboy Junction was. But I don’t know.
