Royal Canadian Pacific visits United States

Steve,

Nice photo. Thanks for driving to the toolies of North Dakota to record it!

CP under new leadership, maybe they have some who realizes the potential of the oil play after being left behind by BN who has garnered most of the new business in ND on top of its an impressive unit grain train service.

I think it is interesting to note that CP’s new plan has a lot of points that match up with a recent TRAINS article on the choices they need to make going forward, from investing in their mainline through US to Chicago and possibly selling D&H in New York. Once again, CP is playing catch up as CN has been strengthening its position in and out of Chicago while CP put its hope on a Powder Basin coal play that never came to be.

Correction for Mr. Ekren: It was Dakota Minnesota & Eastern which was hoping for the Powder River coal play. It allowed itself to be sold to CP hoping that CP would proceed with the project, but it seems now that CP never had much, if any, intention of doing so, and now has none. CP never spent a dime on it beyond actually buying DM&E and its sister IC&E. And now Hunter wants to sell the west end of the DM&E. (Some of us still hope he’ll sell the ex-IC&E to KCS.)

Those F units are beautiful and the best paint job was the ATSF warpaint!
