I recently acquired this HO set. Still in box and still in factory sealed plastic wrap… I’m curious, is this a good set to collect?
Whoa! I have that set too! Dunno how much it’s worth, but it got me started in model railroading. odds are that this set was sold by J.C. Penny 15 years ago. I got mine for my first birthday…Yep, I’m 15 too!
Hello James,
Thanks for the info… I wonder if you n I have the same set? the item # on the box is 481 and below it is the numbers 49-95202. The set consists of engine, tender, 3 passenger cars and a Royal coach plus track, etc… All are in a royal blue with gold stipe trim, What is yours ??
KIT, Bob Kim
X-actly the same.
James
Do your sets have the little metal tag on the bottom of the tender? I haven’t seen mine in a while, but I think it had the number 1032 on the bottom.
Ryan
Hello Ryan,
On checking my set, the no. is on my engine. It is 6105… I suppose these numbers relate to how many were made… Do you know what the signifigance of the numbers is??
KIT, Robert
I do. the Royal Scot was a limited edition. the number refers to when the model was made. Yours was made after Ryan’s
To James n Ryan,
Are you fellas currently running your ‘RoyalScot’ on your layouts?? Are either of you working on a layout that reflects an English or European theme?
KIT Robert
The Royal Scot pulls an exhibition train on my Illinois River Valley-based McHenry Railway Museum.
Robert,
I haven’t run that train set in about ten years. The last time I had a working layout, it was a model of the Sierra Nevadas in California and I was way too uptight to have that train on that layout. I have mellowed quite a bit in my old age (I’ll be 28 Monday) and I could easily run that train now. Unfortunately, I no longer have a layout. When I can afford to buy a house here with a basement, I’ll begin construction before I finish unpacking. Until then, I’ll just stick with detailing locomotives and building a collection of rolling stock. I would like to hear more about what you guys are into, though.
