No name of the railroad, state or even country!
It’s on the Buffalo & Pittsburgh; there’s a thread about it
on the Trains Mag. forum. (should be on the bottom of pg. 2)
The fire began at about 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in Donegal Township/Chicora, PA.
David, That was a KDKA news item so it was intended for people in the Pittsburgh area. It would either be CSX or NS I would imagine, unless it belonged to one of the many shortlines. It did mention Butler Coounty which is near Pittsburgh, not sure which side. I hope they repair it and not let more business go to trucks and further clog the highways.
I checked the Trains news wire but didn’t thnk to check the forum. Should have known it would make the forum before the news wire. [:)]
WoW, What a fire. Lets hope they get that fixed soon.
What I’m confused about is this?
They say this:
“A brush fire that spread to a railroad trestle in Butler County Wednesday afternoon means three chemical plants are looking for an alternative way to get deliveries.”
Then at the End Say this
“Right now, authorities do not know how the fire started.”
???
Would imagine they mean “not sure how the brush fire got started.”
Could be sparks from something, or even a careless cigarette thrown away.
What I find interesting is that the call letters for the station start with a “K”. I thought that all stations in the east started with a “W” and the station in the west started with a “K.”
No big deal, just found it interesting.

That wasn’t always the rule. See the article by Scott Fybush at

One thing ‘tragic’ about this is that those plants rely SOLELY, 100%, on the railroad coming across that bridge to get their supplies. They have no other way in or out.
Trucks ain’t going to help in this situation for those plants.

The railroad bridge is burning down, burning down the railroad bridge is burning down
d2mn and it’s 120 years old!!! wood… dry wood good ingredients for fire… bad for the railroad…
One of those fires that you don’t fight, just keep it from spreading. Cresote burns like crazy.
I’m not that suprised to hear that it’s arson… I thought it would be as soon as I read that it was a spur that served oil companies… Probably some crazed environmentalist trying to cripple the oil industry in the area…
I remember reading about some radical environmentalist group burning an entire GM Hummer dealership and a housing development because they “felt they were products that too severely hurt the environment”… Funny they never consider what all the smoke from the burning products does for the environment…
