RR Museum in Galveston

It’s a sad sight to see the museum with such devastation. We had to pick up my wife’s daughter and her husband down there yesterday after their honeymoon. Last week we saw lots of devastation to homes, but we didn’t go downtown. I found the museum and was heartbroken to see that most of the interior, at least on the first floor had been nearly gutted, and you could tell some of the freight cars had suffered significant damage.

Galveston may come back someday, but when you get off the beaten path along the seawall, you can see the true devastation those poor folks suffered. I wonder where they’re all living now?

I heard on the news a week or so ago that Galveston is really in bad shape right now, with taxes cut by a third and the Gov.still hasnt sent $ for clean up and a lot of stuff…The state only pays a small amout toward cleanup and util.restoration ,the US Gov is suppose to furninh something like 70% of the cost for cleanup and restoration of services…

No word on folks that lost everything,I know some said they were leaving and not rebuild…

I subscibe to a publication that had an article on the RR Museum,it talked like there was little damage to the rr equipment there, the bldg suffered the worst, but they had insurance to cover that…

NASA has been helping out the museum. They have graciously donated the use of Building 10 at the Johnson Space Center so the museum can use it’s large vacuum chamber to help dry out waterlogged artifacts. This chamber in Building 10 is where the Apollo capsules were tested. There are lots of updates on the museum’s website.
