I have an NYC HO scale Kato that I want to refinishas a CNJ…(I know, I know, why didn’t I buy a CNJ decorated one?) I got a good deal. Anyway, anyone know how to get the glazing and the cab interior out of the cab?

As you will note in the exploded view, the windows are installed as a complete assy. Use care to remove them, Even when these were new quite a few years ago, they were a bit tricky to remove w/o damage. The (4) front/ rear windows "lock the assy in place, any attempt to pry on the sides first can cause breakage. Free up those first w/ a blade or small screwdriver before prying the cab sides. A toothpick may help, as they can tend to “snap” back into place.
Use care @ the hood latches to walkway, may times these will break or wear and not latch properly when reassembling.
Another note, Check out the coupler mounting and pilot for decent operation and coupler height. I modified the pilot and used 30 series Kadees
These drives are some of the best, however the shell is really lacking in detail, this would be the time to add them (shave off the molded grabs and install wire drop style).
Good luck on the paint job.
Thanks ‘Z’, but I have a kato, those directions are for an Atlas. I have the Kato Directions but they’re not real clear on how to remove them.
JEP1267,
That is a Kato/Atlas RS3. I have the same one, It’s an Atlas with Kato drives and Kato parts all over it. They should be the same, when was yours made? Are not the cab and body the same? Won’t Bogp40 directions help you ?
Cheers, [D]

Oh geeze what a dope, I didn’t even notice BOgp40 detailed directions…gues I should remove “Good at noticing stuff” from my resume. [:D]
Actually my Kato RS unit has separate “grabs”, albeit they’re plastic, not wire, they are included and need to be applied, and VERY thin. Someone asked what year it was manufactured, I can’t seem to find that anywhere.
John,
The date is really no big deal, but it more than likely would be printed on the instructions for the Model.
Frank
That’s what I thought too Frank but it’s not…Oh well I just may leave it an NY Central.
