Does anyone know where I might be able to purchase rubber ties for my layout or suggestions for making my own?
Are you refering to engine traction tries? If so, what make and type of engine?
There are a couple of companies that make rubber ties for either O ior 027 tubular track. I’d have to dig through my magazines for more specific info. I recall seeing them made in both brown color for 027 and black for 0.
If you are good with a razor blade and a metal straight edge, you can make your own using foam core board with a black colored center. It comes in two thicknesses which will work for either 0 or 027. You could also use self-sticking foam strip insulation. I’ve seen this in black and gray.
I used black foam core board for my nephew’s layout with 027 track. The black foam core ties versus the brown of the 027 track is no big deal. It does help to deaded the train board rumble. Art framing shops often throw out scrap pieces of foam core board. You could also ask if they have any remaining pieces from framing jobs that you could either have or buy at a reduced price.
I’m sorry, know that I understand taht you want ties and not tires, you can try www.3r-plastics.com. they make black or brown color to match “O”,“027” or 'S". 100 pack $15.00, 250 pack $30.00.
Hope this helps.
Here is another source of ties. These come in both black and brown, ) ‘O’ and 027. These are the ones that I used. They do not have the clamping plate for the rails. Approx price is $13.95 per bag of maybe 200 or 250. You should check current pricing as it has been some time since I ordered these.
