I have just purchased one of these older units, one problem; the traction tires for the tender need replacing[B)]. I have no idea where to look for them. They are rather small, not sure of the size perhaps 28" diameter. Any input i could get would be appreciated.[:D] Thank you. Joey
Aha! Want a great hint, go to a dentist and ask for the little rubbers they use for braces, they come in different sizes, they might give you a few. mine work great.
Thanks a heap! Never thought of that. Joey
Stewart Products (not the Stewart that makes locomotives and freight cars that Bowser bought up but a separate firm sometimes called Virnex) makes replacement traction tires for a variety of Rivarossi/AHM/IHC engines. I would be surprised if they do not have something that matches the old Pemco 2-6-0 since IHC has offered the same engine in updated form. Check the Walthers catalog. From time to time they advertise in MR and/or RMC as well

i’m confused , why would you have traction tires on the tender ? aren’t they used on the drivers to increase traction so the engine can pull more ?
The elastics that come from the orthodontist work perfectly. I think of model railroading every time I am putting a couple of these on my braces…I wish I was putting them on a great loco instead of this medieval torture device I am currently wearing (at age 47…)
