Rumors?

Have any of you learned recently that a major supplier of MRR products might be about to go belly up? More importantly, does one or another name pop up if this is the case?

Crandell

Do you know the answer to your own question, Crandell?

If so, why play guessing games, just tell us.

I hope this is not another post to get folks all worked up over nothing. Just the title of it says it all. Please do not post unsubstantiated second and third hand “I heard. . .” stuff.

A google search didn’t turn up anything that wasn’t a year or so old, such as the largest model train mfg in China dumping several of it’s customers. I did learn that Bachmann is owned by a Chinese holding company, the name of which escapes me at present.

Crandell,Welcome to the wonderful world of rumors.

Here’s my take.

Railfan rumors are a penny for a bakers dozen.

Model railroad rumors are a penny a dozen.

I’m not impress with such outhouse rumors…

The best rumours is that 1977 album by Fleetwood Mac [Y]

I heard that McDonald’s was going to be including Mentos with every happy meal that included a Coke. Unfortunately, there was such violent reaction from parents that McDonald’s decided to can it. [A]

Well that would be sad, for sure.
Unfortunately, I can share the blame, as I have not made purchases I really want to.
It’s not that I do not want to support the great companies out there, it’s a compromise.
We all know that too well, & that is why it is sad.

I agree!!! I hate it when people want to play the guessing game… name names and cite sources and stop pot stirring!

Yes Horizon hobbies is going belly up. MTH is buying the Athearn and Roundhouse line. All locos will be equipped with DCS. This is part of MTH’s long range plan to do away with DCC.

This is straight from Oracle Delphi a well known source for what’s going to happen in the world.

Did you hear something Crandell? If so, do tell, if not, why are you asking?

to send us on a wild goose chase looking for horse feathers?

I did an exhaustive search on 4 different search engines {all well known and good I mihgt add} and found nothing under “belly up”, “bankrupt”, “closing” or “closing its doors”, or “bust” for anything Model Railroad related THAT WASN"T ALREADY OLD. As noted, anything over a year old is not new news.

I even search for “chinese manufacturers/closing/bankrupt/out of business” for MRR stuff. NO go for nothing not already known.

I wouldn’t be surprised if something does go belly up manycompanies do in a year.

I smell a rat. and it ain’t cooking for dinner!

Call me gullible - you almost had me…

I thought today was Feb. 22, not 1 April…

A member of another train site posted that he was informed that a major company in China, a manufacturer for a large hobby supplier, was going to declare bankruptcy after the Chinese new year. The poster offered nothing more than that, and didn’t say it would happen, only that he had heard it from his LHS. So, I ask it here with no other information or conjecture…do any of you know something you can share? That’s all…nothing more, no innuendo, no hidden agenda…just askin’.

Crandell, & All,
This seems to be a growing trend in the ‘market there’…
I have heard fom private manufacturers (even in the HVAC environment), that they had many problems, of delivery times, & severe Quality Control issues, as costs have risen wildly.
As so much as they have been ‘out manufactured’ & ‘priced out’ at the same time!

If one looks at the treads in the last few months, that is a sure set of signs of the situation.
We all know what it stems from so I will not go further, but san say we saw (should have seen), the “Here’s Your Sign” coming…

I don’t get it is this a joke or something even if it isn’t the companies I have a pre orders from won’t cost me anything.

Oops, maybe we have prejudged you Crandell. I thought you knew something and weren’t telling us.

From what I understand, Kader is a large manufaturer which includes Bachmann products and makes a large variety of toys and model trains. I always heard they were the 2000 pound gorilla so they seemed too big to fail.

Also, doesn’t bankruptsy, at least in the US, means you are filing for protection from creditors which means it there are problems, but not necessarily over and done with. Some companies re-organize while under bankruptsy conditions and then keep going.

If it’s a Chinese company that supplies “a” (as in singular) US company or distributor, then it’s not Kader. They supply many vendors.

Assuming it’s already bent and twisting by the bushtelephone of the rumor mill, then even if it were Kader, they’re so deep in orders, reorganization will happen as production continues.

In general, if it’s excess capacity, then it’s entirely possible they won’t be back. If it’s just bad management, then orders on the books will help seal a deal quickly as sharper pencils take the helm.

I guess my take is I won’t worry too much until I see a press release.

Railflyer is the only one I’m aware of …

Mark.
