Run Thru Power?

Aside from the horsepower trade off and hours used. Are the railroads that use other companies locomotives required to do any maintenance, cleaning, top off with fuel or anything else like when you rent a car? Also how do they compensate the owner of the locomotive if it is damaged or destroyed while on another’s road?

Did I ask a question that no one can answer?

Everybody’s out Christmas shopping…

If you wreck it you repair it or you buy it. It happens from time to time. Fuel has to be replaced, daily inspections, and very minor repairs are done, normally the locomotives are sent back when heavier repairs and inspections are required (92 day inspection, etc.)
