I have a quick trivia question.
Can anybody tell me what train was used for the 1985 movie, starring Jon Voight, “Runaway Train”?
The movie was mostly filmed on Alaska Railroad track and with ARR equipment. The studio had to sign a release agreeing not to show any ARR identification marks in the finished movie.
According to Wikipedia,
“The runaway’s locomotive lineup in the movie was Alaska Railroad #3010 (an EMD GP40-2), #1500 (an EMD F7) and two EMD GP7s, 1801 and 1810. The latter two locomotives were constructed with short hoods but for the film were fitted with mock-up high-noses made of plywood. These noses were slightly higher than the normal height of a GP7.”
