Running in a new MTH GP35

Hello,
(another Just my Opinion)…

I had a little fun trying out a new-to-me loco, an MTH GP35.
This is my second one; the first did not work out, why; Because I’m Stupid!
I ordered one & after speeding home for two days to find it waiting for me, I eagerly unpacked it & saw an NEM Coupler, then a big Bronze Pickup plate on the front truck, -OH MAN! I had gotten a 3 Rail Euro Version! It was shipped back with many apologies for not doing proper Part Number research, on my part, what a let down…
Now I had gotten the correct one, checked it carefully, & left it sit for a couple weeks.
I did as the included manual said, & gave it a very small touch of LaBelle 107 on the axle ends & the white axle bearings.
I finally got it out & wanted to try it, but the Wireless DCC controller batteries were dead, so I replaced those, and was up & running, NOT!
Being a fairly noob to DCC, I had to find the proper setup.
This one would just not respond.
I placed a ‘known good’ locomotive on the track, chose its number & it came to life.
I then put in address 03, set it & still nothing, tried the Cab number still nothing, back to 03, and then I remembered that some decoders have a Start up sequence, Hmmm….
I started pushing all the F keys one by one & hey, it started on F3, Ahhh Haaa… Then everything came to life!
I knew from the past that the F8 was for the coupler, but did not know that the F6 was volume, I previously removed the rear most Radiator Fan because it was ascue, & saw the Potentiometer, but adjusting it had Zero effect, & I adjusted it back to where I thought it was.
One thing lacking in this package is the Documentation for the GP series, the manual that came with it was for an ACE or an FA model.
Personally, I would also like to see a Business Card type thing, that lists the function numbers for Standard DCC. It would be easy to keep with the loco, & easy to

Looks like a nice engine!
