I just sold a 2344 to a gentleman through Ebay. He received it and said it ran very poorly on his Fastrak. I’ve owned this engine for four years running it on Atlas O without any problems. Has anyone had compatibility issues running Postwar Lionel engines on Fastrak?
Postwar runs better on FasTrack then on tubular track. There is much less sparking and the sparking has never caused pitting on my FasTrack. The lack of pitting is probably due to the flat top of the track which spreads the heat from the spark over a larger surface area then round tubular track does. My tubular track is full of pits. My FasTrack has none.
With the 2344’s, could be the nature of the beast. With the horizontal motors, they can be noisy as hell to someone who hasn’t experienced them. The low gearing can make them act as they were lugging. If one is used to can motors, horizontal motor F3’s can come off as though there is something terribly wrong. Once he puts his head up close and personal to the track and gets a big wiff of the ozone and hot grease, he will be in heaven and won’t go back to cans.
I am having the same experience as Earl with postwar on Fastrack. Especially with switches. They are flawless compared to O22’s or 711 tubular. It gives MPC a whole new meaning as it runs like Kato on Unitrack. I wipe it down with an alcohol soaked rag occasionally no different than I have with tubular. Never noticed any preservation oil when buying new but maybe it’s done with bulk blends, earlier runs, or I didn’t know it was there. Just opened a new 5" straight and can’t detect any whatsoever.
