I’m trying to introduce something new here, upping my postings so I can get a new star by reporting something news-werethy:
My railfan buddy Jeff More has reported this on two lists:
"The first part of the application to abandon the McCloud Railway (Environmental Materials) was filed with the STB today. The content of the filing is not uploaded to the STB site yet, but should be tomorrow or the next day.
STB docket number is AB-914-0-X. "
"This filing should be for the complete abandonment and removal of the entire railroad east of McCloud, with common carrier service suspended on the McCloud-Mt. Shasta City trackage. "
"JD Moore Elko, NV "
Goosh, I got a posting credit here, without posting to a stupid thread. I also passed along some railroad news!
Jim - we don’t have stupid threads. It is a “variety”. It takes a couple of people posting to any thread, but gee, I can think of a lot of things people do by themselves that is a lot more stupid than forum postings.
Having said that: Where is McCloud and was it because of the decline of the common carrier service? I admit my geography is poor and my knowledge is very incomplete, but this involves trains, so…I am interested
I think what I’m saying here, is that if you want to get stars for posting stuff, post news. Just like I did, I didn’t write the news item, I only reported it to this, our clearing house, Trains Forums.
A forum is like a family, yes at times we banter on, but - the point of the forum is to share railfan information.
So, instead of mindless entries to a thread on “Running Up My Postings,” how about passing along some news? A constructive addition to the collective knowledge through a factual posting.
The McCloud operation is a California institution. The railroad is situated in northeastern California and has been operating for over 100 years. Trains has done a number of issues over the past 65 years on the operation.
Ah Jim - all meat and no potatoes makes a dull forum. I don’t like the stars, but I love reading the postings and asking questions. And like any good conversation, you can’t be argumentative and overbearing. You have to have a mix of good conversation, good listening and some humor. And sometimes, someone needs to tug on someone’s pant leg when they are wound too tight.
I will continue to ask questions as long as someone will be nice enough to give me a decent reply. And yes, I will try to ask pertinent questions. But I also will tug a pant leg once in awhile.
The McCloud RR was shaped like a T untill the Hambone branch was abandoned not too long ago. The top left was its connection with the UP line from Klamath Falls to Redding at Mt Shasta City. The top right connected with the BNSF at Hambone on the Klamath to Beiber line. The bottom goes to the town of Burney.
I seem to recall hearing that diatomaceous earth recently started moving out of the area on MCR from a reload. Was that not enough business or did it stop?
