I am looking to obtain a Russell Snow Plow in HO Scale with the CN road name (actually, any road name would do right about now). Can anybody tell me if any of these even exist in HO scale and where or how I might be able to obtain one ?[:(]

In their 2002 paper catalog, Walthers had an HO scale Russell snow plow in CN livery, item 932-5758 for roughly $ 14 USD. Just checked their online catalogue, and they are out of stock, even the yellow Conrail version. Much earlier, Ambroid had a wooden kit, K-10, for a Russell. Guess you will have to go to train shows, swap meets or estate sales to find either kit these days, unless one of the online hobby shops still has one in stock. At least now you are aware of two possibilities. Have no idea who makes the proper decals for a piece of CN MOW equipment. Perhaps someone else can help. Good luck.

I can vouch for the Walthers Russell Snow Plow kit. I built one several years ago for my CN-based layout. It came undecorated in a bright yellow so it had to be painted. I don’t know if there are any decals available for it, mine is still running around without any. They did have a CP version at one time but no CN. The kit all in all was very good but I had to add my own window glass for the cab.

As mentioned in previous posts, the Walthers one would be the one to look for. I have several myself, including one sent to me by Walthers, as I supplied them with some color photos of a prototype CN Russell plow that I photographed in Moncton, N. B. They used the data on the prototype to decorate their model, so we do know it was accurate! The color is a bit too bright an orange, but it will do.
If you cannot find this decorated one (try eBay), dry transfer lettering for CN Russell plows are (or were) available from Greg Komar Dry Transfers, 15532 Woodway Drive, Tampa, FL 33613. I got mine several years ago and don’t remeber the price. I don’t know if he has e-mail and/or a website,but perhaps a Google search might turn something up, at least a dealer.
I’ve done lots of modeling of Russell plows, and the shorter ones operated by CN and CP. I started by shortening British made Triang Russell plows, then used the Walthers models when they became available.

Unfortunately, the only CN Russell snow plow transfer listed in his online catalogue is O gauge. However, you might E-mail him at gkomar@mindspring.com to see if he has any unlisted back shelf stock.
