What are the pros and cons? Thanks, Stephen
I have modeled in HO, O, and now S. (along the way I set up an N scale layout for my son and dabbled in G).
For me S scale has:
Less electrical pickup problems.
Easier to see and build with than the smaller scales.
Smaller pieces are easier to work with than the larger scales.
The trains have a nice presence as they run by on the layout.
Cons:
Requires a little more space than the smaller scales to do the same thing.
Steam locomotive availability is thin - this is gradually imporving.
Overall I find this scale to be the best compromise. It has the adavantages of HO and O and minimizes their disadvantages. Working with it is like working in HO the way HO ought to be - big enough to be a delight, small enough to have a layout is less than a basement.
Enjoy

I’ll agree, it’s a great size. If you have space for a moderate sized HO layout, you can do S with no problems. Some of the stuff is really beautiful, check out the locomotives at www.btsrr.com. A little pricy, but they will blow you away! And I’ve seen some good ole’ American Flyer dressed up and it can look nice too, for relatively little in cost.
