[:(][:(][:(] CN pulled up the turntable in Green Bay last week. The last three stalls of the former CNW roundhouse probobly are not long for this world either. [V][V][V]
I fondly remember sitting near the Green Bay CNW engine facility watching all the different locomotive types of the different builders in the 1970’s along with my trusty McDonalds quarter pounder for nourishment,sad situation. Jim in Aurora, IL
In May 2003, I attended the Chicago & North Western Historical Society annual convention in Green Bay and we were able to take pictures of one of the last C&NW GEs still in yellow and green on the turntable. A former C&NW official, Chris Burger, I believe, arrange the visit and the locomotive’s appearance. We were able to walk through the roundhouse on our own as well. Thank you CN! Glad some railroads still understand the fascination their industry has for railfans. Sorry to hear the turntable gone. First saw the GB roundhouse there in about 1991 when I made my first true railfanning trip. A lot has changed in GB since then. No more C&NW, FRV or GBW, and the GBW’s Norwood shops and yard is gone.

Dosen’t sound Railroad Happy Days in Green Bay
We in Saint John N.B. were blessed till the late eightys with two
Operational turn tables used by CN Rail and CP Rail/CAR or Canadian
Atlantic Railway which became New Brunswick Southern.I can recall the
round house on Rostheay avenue which was allowed to be to become a
mud hut for city buses.the CP round house was merly demolished as
the yard was lost.
Railroad history is lost sadly by those whom
fail to see the value in history.

CMEASTERN: I was there , too, at the Chicago & North Western Historical Society meet in Green Bay where we had a group photo taken in front of the turntable with the big GE in North Western paint. Fortunately I have my own photos, those that appeared in NW Lines, and the DVD that commemorates the meet.
How quickly things built to last can disappear! This is why I say – and this is with about 40 years experience as a railfan – if it is of the LEAST bit of interest, be it a store, a shed, a signal, a bridge, a house, a fire hydrant, a telephone pole, a sign, whatever – take a picture. Now! Do it! not when the light is better or the weather is warmer. Now.

There is still I belive it must be an old CNW turntable in Janesville WI. It’s now currently used by the Wisconsin and Southern railroad. I haven’t been there myself yet, but i have a calender of the WSOR’s from 2002 and it has a picture of the turntable in there. There might be something at www.wsorrailroad.com , but i don’t know. There is a map under the frieght services page, just click on the word “Janesville” and up will pop a map with the location.
