no Sagami is not chinees food
its a can motor
I just got one in a brass train with a soundtraxx
whats the scoop with them they sell for quite a bit and I was wondering why
I dont have dcc set up as I run dc and disconected my cheap mrc 2000
for now but is it powerfull or is it a slooooooooooow crawler??
Sagami motors are good quality Japanese-made motors. One of their main advantages is the abiliy to start and run with a very low current draw. They have relatively high torque for their size and flat torque curve/speed characteristics.
The NorthWest Short Line catalogue lists quite a few, with motor speeds at 12 volts ranging from 7000 rpm up to 27,500 rpm, so crawling ability will depend both on the particular motor and the gearing in the loco. These motors are pretty much maintenance-free.
Aren’t they the ones that the armature rotates around a center magnet instead of inside the magnetics like normal? And as a result, their disadvantage is that they cannot take any thrust torque against the shaft? Or am I thinking of a different brand/type…
The armature on this motor is similar to that in an open-frame motor. These have five pole skewed armatures and ceramic magnets. I’m not sure, but perhaps you’re thinking of coreless motors.
Sagami’s were one of the best can motors out there, but during the earthquake that hit Kobi Japan a few years ago thier factory took a direct hit and since then they have been hard to get and many models are simply NLA. Cheers Mike
