Sage Advice for the Double-Decker...

Howdy-

I was laying some track on my newly-built double-decked benchwork last night. If the bulk of your track-laying experience was gained on a single deck, allow me to offer a quick word of advice…

DUCK!

(Often!)

[:D]

John

Thanks for the advice, I’m hoping to need it within the next 6 months. Being that I tend to hit my head often as it is, a hard hat may be in my future!

Ricky

Yes, it was both humorous and frustrating as I knew it was there but kept hitting it anyway. Fortunately there’s nothing much up there that can be damaged. Nor on the top deck either… [:P]

John

Here’s hoping you don’t need the advice when you start working on the lower level within the next six months.

That said, I think someone should market foam hats, so we don’t have clunker helmets on our heads, but a decent amount of padding. And a plus size thickness for those modellers who have given up the soft padding on the top of their heads

Sounds like as much fun as working under the kitchen sink.

Mark

Yeah, its pretty much the same thing, except the sink doesn’t have QSI sound…

John,

Good advice!!! I laid all of my track on the lower deck before building the upper deck. However, that doesn’t mean I haven’t banged my head a few hundred times…On the upper deck you will be banging into the Valences!! Just wait till you get to wiring…[:D]

Mark -Trains beat plumbing anytime!

Guy

Wear one of those Green Bay cheese heads.

My sister-in-law has one here in the house, I’ll test it out. Of course I may have to change it froma cheese wedge to a cheese ball so it doesn’t get in the way[(-D]

Ricky

I like cheese balls, especially cheddar. Maybe I should put a cheese ball factory on my layout… [C=:-)]

The Flying Valances

The World Famous Flying Valances and high wiring… great combination! [:D]

Try three decks like I have, even more fun.

Bob

You wouldn’t happen to own stock in Fokker by any chance… ??? [:-^]

You could probably pick up a Vikings helmet really cheap about now but the horns might get caught. [:D]

Tom

Who ever would have thunk it, model railroading an extreme sport, helmets required.

The true test will be when you start work on the upper deck and say to yourself why am I doing this? Who’s toy trains are these? Why would any grown man play with trains? If any of the above happens just bang your head again or until you remember why and what your doing…
