A long carry for that new sofa
Stupid question, but I honestly don’t know: how does automobile traffic cause more wear on the cables?
I suspect that heavy automobile traffic means more starting and stopping, meaning that the car needs to grip and release the cable more frequently, causing more wear.
The cable moves at constant speed. Starting involves slippage of the cable grip until up to speed. Thus cable wear.
Got it. Thank you, Christian and Larry. The last time I was in San Francisco, some 16-17 years ago, I spent a fascinating morning at the cable car museum. The basement display of the cable spindles and their tensioning devices was mesmerizing. Thanks again!
