Loons!

We just had a union election and the UTU lost 2 to 1.
So. it’s win some and lose some.

Good move. Collective bargaining is the way to go in today’s corporate dominated workplace.

Many people seem to forget before unions there was no paid sick leave, no retirement benefits, no over-time, no paid vacation, and many other benefits now taken for granted.

Anyone that thinks that the SLRG is a “corporate dominated workplace” doesn’t have a good grasp of the actual situation. Everyone looses in this situation.

Agreed Dennis Williams!

Mr. Hays,
You got a problem with railroaders making a living wage?

That’ll be the end of the excursion trains. Ride 'em while you can. Very bad move.

Whether or not a company is union does not determine how good a company is. Some are nonunion and have good pay and some that are pay their workers peanuts, but that is not usually the case, quite the opposite. If workers want to unionize, let them vote on it, and let the chips fall where they may after it’s over, union or not.

I have to chuckle at these folks who complain about unions on the weekend, which they would not have if not for unions. Unions are not perfect because they are run by people but without them Americans would be working under the same conditions that they did in the 1920s. Read “The Jungle” by Upton Sinclair.

Somehow, people think that corporations will take really good care of the workers out of the kindness of their heart rather than increase their profit. I don’t think so.

Union today, unemployed next year/ That’s just the way it is, especially on this type of railroad.

About 5 years too late. As an Exemployee of the SLRG I say about time.

Non union railroads always make less and have inferior benefits of those which are union. Safety is another issue on some shortlines, in particular non union ones…
