Can anyone tell me if Santa Fe retained the original whistles on the 2-8-8-2 Y3’s that they bought from the N&W or did they swap them out with thier own type whistles? Thanks a lot.

Photographic evidence suggests that they had similar looking whistles, but looks ain’t everything with whistles. Two identical whistles could produce a very different sound between them.
