Santa Fe F3 in yellow or blue???

Are the yellow & silver and (light) blue & silver paint jobs a fantasy or did they exist?

I saw a Marklin HO Santa Fe F3 or F7 in a blue and silver war bonnet. Not the dark blue freight color, but a kinda robin’s egg lighter blue and silver.

They were called Yellow Bonnets and Blue Bonnets and they did exist.

I don’t know about the F3’s or the F7’s but they had some F9’s painted in blue and yellow warbonnet’s

The blue one is sexy. Mostly used for freight, I think. Not real wild about the yellow bonnet.

The light or “robin’s egg blue” may be the result of weathering over time. Santa Fe blue seems to be an “eye of the beholder” thing. In O-gauge, I have seen light blue to almost black. I have paint from three different companies all stating Santa Fe blue, and all are different. In the real world, Santa Fe probably used paint from multiple manufacturer’s, so, I would guess, just about anything goes.

Santa Fe did sell a few PA-1’s to D&H and they kept the warbonnet but painted it blue and yellow.
