Santa Fe F7 Warbonnets

Does anyone know if the A.T.S.F. ever used their passenger f7 locos for freight duty? I just purchased an A-B set of Kato f7s (n scale) on ebay, in an effort to get started back in the hobby. And I want to eventually use them for freight duty, but also wi***o remain somewhat prototypical. Thanks for any info!

After passenger service was turned over to Amtrak, every railroad used their passenger locomotives for freight service instead of scrapping them.

The 325 class F7’s were purchased for dual service and the Santa Fe books show them on freight fairly often. They were purchased as a three unit sets but were used as needed later on.

You would be correct to use them in some fashion on freight trains.

Very early runs of the Super-C (prior to getting USPS traffic) sometimes had one warbonnet F7A, one pig flat and a caboose.

Santa Fe’s F7 Red Warbonnet’s were repainted into 'Yellow Bonnet’s, 'Blue Bonnet’s for freight service; or rebuilt into CF-7’s for switcher duty…

So I can “get away with it”? That’s good to know. Thanks to all for the info![:D]

I do’nt see why not, when I worked for the S.P.on the P.F.E. over Donner summet our engines were a mixture of F-7A&B’s G.Ps alittle bit of every thing.[:D][:)]This was back in the 60’s
