Anyone have photos of the ex-Santa Fe RDC cars after 1970?
The old heavyweights at PTRA North Yard a few years ago.
Go take a look at some of McCall’s or McMillan’s books. The doodlebugs disappeared pretty quick once ATSF starting getting out of the passenger biz before 1970. John Reid almost kept another one along with the two doodlebugs (M190 and M160, now in Dallas) that sat in his roundhouse at Albuquerque before turning them over to Sacramento. IIRC, Santa Fe only had a token number of DC’s (Budd Diesel Cars, purchased around 1950) and they were long gone by the time M160 and M-190 retired.
The RDCs ran LA-SanDiego. They had a bad wreck early some after they arrived, several fatalities.I vaguely remember they ran Alb- El Paso for a time.
